The National Lawyers Guild Los Angeles recognized Professor Cohen for her contribution and work in co-founding the Los Angeles Incubator Consortium (LAIC). LAIC is a one year program that offers new attorneys with the training needed to launch their own sustainable, solo practices while providing legal services to underrepresented and low-income residents in Los Angeles County. LAIC is a collaborative program between Southwestern, Loyola, and UCLA Law School, in partnership with legal service providers such as Bet Tzedek and the Harriett Buhai Center for Family Law, among many others.

We are fortunate to have built a successful collaboration of law schools and legal services partners to help our participants build sustainable solo practices serving modest means clients. We are in our fourth cohort and look forward to the program continuing to grow into the future, as we fill a vital need in our community for affordable legal services."

The National Lawyers Guild (NLG) was founded in 1937 as the country's first racially-integrated bar association of progressive lawyers and jurists who believed that they had a major role to play in the reconstruction of legal values to emphasize human rights over property rights. The Guild is the oldest and most extensive network of public interest and human rights activists working within the legal system.
