Protecting Human Rights for All at the Local Level

On September 26, 2017, Professor Isabelle Gunning, president of the LA County Human Relations Commission, and its executive director,  Robin Toma, spoke to the International Association of Official Human Rights Agencies.  Their presentation, Taking on Implicit Bias and Policing Issues in LA: An initiative in LA County for Reducing Implicit Bias, focused on the HRC's two key initiatives: (1) hearings on policing issues in all the LA County communities;  and (2) our work on creating a curriculum to reduce implicit bias in LA County departments.

Carmelyn P. Malalis Esq., Commissioner for the New York City Human Rights Commission, provided an East Coast perspective in her presentation Big Changes in the Big Apple: New Directions for New York's HRC in the New Era.
