JD/MBA Students to Represent Drucker at Regional Mergers and Acquisitions Competition

Recent Southwestern graduate Phillip Leathers ’15 and current student Joshua Maldonado ’16, who are enrolled in the Southwestern-Drucker JD/MBA program, were part of a five-member team that won the intramural round of the ACG Cup Competition held at the Drucker Graduate School of Management. This mergers and acquisitions competition is hosted by the Association for Corporate Growth (ACG).  Teams first compete within their MBA school, and the winning team moves onto the interscholastic regional competition. Leathers and Maldonado’s team will represent Drucker at the regional rounds in Los Angeles on March 7.

“I think the combination of our Southwestern legal training along with courses taught at Drucker made the difference in our ability to earn the top spot during this round of competition” Leathers said.

The ACG Cup is a case study competition designed to give students from leading MBA programs across the country real world experience and invaluable insights into mergers and acquisitions, investment banking, financial advisory and private equity. Each case study provides students with a unique opportunity to present valuation, capital markets and M&A strategic advice to a panel of seasoned M&A professionals from within the ACG community. The competition is carried out through a series of intra-school and regional competitions, with regional winners awarded the prestigious ACG Cup title and cash awards.
