International Business Transactions

This course deals with practical and substantive aspects of doing business abroad, and with the domestic international law of import-export, especially U.S. trade remedies and GATT. Topics include: international contracting; the International Convention on the Sale of Goods; documentary sale of goods; choice of law and forum problems; forms of direct and indirect foreign investment; transfer of technology problems; business immigration issues; transnational litigation, arbitration and other forms of dispute settlement; and the ethical aspects of choosing and employing foreign lawyers.

Family Law Clinic

The Family Law Clinic provides pro bono advice, counsel and representation to clients of the Harriett Buhai Center for Family Law (the "Center") in a variety of family law matters, including but not limited to domestic violence, division of property, visitation, custody, parentage, and child support matters. Students in this Clinic will learn lawyering skills and provide high quality legal assistance to a vulnerable and underserved population in a community-based learning environment.

This course introduces federal and state laws that address the civil rights, needs, and treatment of persons with disabilities. The course covers the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and the Fair Housing Act, along with a brief overview of international disability law, specifically the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

Cybersecurity Law

This course is intended to provide students with an understanding about cybersecurity as defined in the law and in the real world when an intrusion or hack occurs, successful or not. What is the legal fall-out? What is the organizational fall-out? What does such an event mean to the ongoing success of the business entity or law firm?

Critical Race Theory Seminar

This seminar will introduce students to Critical Race Theory, which is an academic project with potential political and legal implications. The project is to expose the interaction of race and law, in particular, the ways in which law has helped to create and define "race." It also exposes how racial subordination and privilege was a crucual context for the creation of many seemingly neutral legal concepts, such as property and liberty. Critical Race Theory will be contrasted to alternative academic-political perspectives on law, such as liberalism and traditionalism.

Cal Bar Writing

Cal Bar Writing: Skills and StrategiesCal Bar Writing: Skills and Strategies is an intensive workshop-style course that provides students with instructions and numerous hands-on practice opportunities focusing on the skills, strategies and select substantive law tested on the written portion of the California Bar Exam. Essay writing skills will be taught using select subjects and topics that are frequently bar tested.

First Amendment Seminar

This seminar examines the origins of the First Amendment and engages modern First Amendment theory. Topics will include incitement of violence, hate speech, commercial speech, campaign finance regulation, government-supported speech, freedom of religion, fake news and rights of protest. This course will also focus on the application of First Amendment principles to the media and entertainment industries, covering issues related to creative freedom, journalist privilege, fair use, defamation, privacy and sexual taboo.
