Professor Carbajal joins Southwestern after nearly a decade of prosecutorial experience across federal, state, and local practice. As an Assistant United States Attorney in the Central District of California, he was assigned to the Major Crimes Section, where he handled federal prosecutions involving RICO, money laundering, and violent crime. His cases included, among others, a jury trial conviction of a defendant engaged in a wire fraud scheme involving fraudulent COVID-19 investment solicitations, and a major federal takedown of the Mexican Mafia-linked Puente-13 street gang on charges including narcotics trafficking, kidnapping, VICAR, and illegal firearms sales.

"The law gives people a way to seek justice, but only if someone can explain it plainly, argue it persuasively, and write it in a way that holds up under scrutiny. That's what I hope to teach students."

Before his federal appointment, Professor Carbajal served as a Senior Assistant District Attorney in the Kings County District Attorney's Office in Brooklyn, where he prosecuted hundreds of felony cases involving violent crime. He also served as a Deputy District Attorney with the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.

At New York University School of Law, Professor Carbajal was a Staff Editor of the N.Y.U. Review of Law & Social Change and Executive Co-Chair of the Latino Law Students Association. He has served as a Deputy Regional President of the Hispanic National Bar Association.
