Mass Incarceration Awareness Law Society Hosts "Ending Mass Incarceration" Series with Legal Leaders

Southwestern Law School announces the "Ending Mass Incarceration" mini-series featuring Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón, Los Angeles County Public Defender Ricardo Garcia, and Los Angeles County Chief City Attorney Michelle McGinnis. This event is organized by the Mass Incarceration Awareness Law Society (MIALS) and focuses on the issue of mass incarceration in the United States.

The series consists of three separate events, each featuring a moderated interview with one of these civil servants and advocates, followed by a Q&A session. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore each office's unique challenges related to mass incarceration.

George Gascón, Los Angeles County District Attorney

• Details: George Gascón will discuss his office's strategies for reducing mass incarceration, as well as community safety and justice.

Ricardo Garcia, Los Angeles County Public Defender

• Location: Louis XVI Room, 2nd Floor Bullocks Wilshire
• Details: Ricardo Garcia will examine systemic factors that contribute to mass incarceration and the role of defense attorneys in this context.

Michelle McGinnis, Los Angeles County Chief City Attorney

• Date: October 2023 (exact date and location TBD)
• Details: Michelle McGinnis will talk about the role of city-level policies and local ordinances in the issue of mass incarceration.
