Dean's Fellows

Dean's Fellows 2015

We carefully select students from among the best in their class based on their academic success and their ability to teach other students best-practice study methods that will help them become acclimated to the study of law. Dean’s Fellows are an important resource and an integral part of Southwestern’s Academic Success courses and programs.  First, Dean’s Fellows serve as mentors and role models. By modeling excellent study habits, time management skills, and overall professionalism, Dean’s Fellows provide an example to students that law school is a place where they can succeed with the right mindset and with the help from Dean’s Fellows along the way. Second, Dean’s Fellows play an integral role in the various Academic Success courses, the first of which are the Academic Skills Labs in the Fall Semester.  As Academic Success teaching assistants, Dean’s Fellows will provide in-depth feedback to students on both practice essays and student outlines.  Dean’s Fellows will also hold weekly open office hours and individual meetings by appointment to assist students in developing the five general skills areas that first-year students need to be successful in their studies: time management, note-taking, reading and briefing, synthesizing (weekly review and outlining), and exam writing.
