UPDATE 3/19/20 - Urgent Message from the Dean

Body

Dear Members of the Southwestern Community,

In order to slow the spread of COVID-19, local officials announced new orders this evening that require non-essential retail businesses to close, reinforce the need for social distancing, and require citizens to stay at home except for essential activities.

To comply with these orders, I am implementing the following requirements for the Southwestern community:

  1. Effective midnight tonight (Thursday, March 19), no Southwestern student will be permitted to enter the Southwestern campus with the exception of students who live in the Residences.  Students who live in the Residences will not be permitted to enter the Bullocks Wilshire building or the Westmoreland building.
  2. Effective noon tomorrow (Friday, March 20), no Southwestern staff or faculty member will be permitted to enter the Southwestern campus with the exception of staff or faculty members specifically designated as necessary to facilitate distance learning or perform essential functions.  Staff and faculty members should assume that they do not fall into this exempt category unless they have been individually notified by their direct supervisor (staff) or the Vice Dean (faculty).

I very much regret the late night notice and the inconvenience that this may cause, but it is extremely important that we all comply so that we can further the attempt to deter the transmission of this virus. To ensure the continued health and safety of the entire Southwestern community, and beyond, we ask that you strictly and unfailingly follow these directives.

Sincerely,

Dean Susan Prager
