Understanding Diversity--The Legal Perspective

Saturday, January 24th
10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Southwestern Campus

Diversity is at the heart of the Southwestern community. It’s not something we simply speak about; it’s something we live on a daily basis. Although Southwestern is the most racially diverse law school in California, we realize diversity goes far beyond race and ethnicity.

This program is an opportunity to share with you our broad commitment to diversity in the legal profession. You will see diversity in our faculty research and the classes we teach. You will see diversity in our programs of study: we have the longest standing 2-year JD program in the country, SCALE, and the only program dedicated to parents with child- and elder-care responsibilities, PLEAS. Diversity runs through our alumni and the various fields of practice they’re enjoying. Lastly, you will see diversity in our student organizations—we believe they are the heart of this school.

Southwestern has been recognized for its diversity, most recently the 2014 State Bar of California Organizational Diversity Award, and was the first law school to receive this honor in the award’s 13-year history. Join us for a day full of programming honoring diversity and the law with informational sessions, campus tours, and lunch with student organization leaders, deans and faculty. Learn about The Trial of Jesus as Professor Ira Shafiroff applies the law to facts. Hear from Associate Dean Robert Mena why law school can be both difficult and enjoyable for you. Watch our trial advocacy teams demonstrate the skills they've learned here. And listen to a panel of Southwestern alumni provide insight into their professions and how to succeed in law school.

All attendees will receive application fee waivers and free parking.

A Special Program for Future Armenian-American Lawyers--Understanding Law School and the Legal Profession

Saturday, January 31st
10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Southwestern Campus

This event is co-sponsored by the Armenian Bar Association. If you are considering law school, we encourage you to visit Southwestern where the diverse and dynamic community includes a large and involved contingent of alumni who are of Armenian heritage, and where the Armenian Law Students Association is one of the most active groups on campus. At this event, you will have the opportunity to meet prominent Armenian-American alumni, current students and faculty, and learn about the programs and student life at Southwestern. Lunch will be served and tours of the campus will be given. All attendees will receive application fee waivers and free parking.

Obtain Your Law Degree in 2 Years: Understanding the SCALE Program

Tuesday, February 10th
6 - 8 p.m.
Southwestern Campus

Take this opportunity to learn about Southwestern's SCALE Program, a 2-year accelerated J.D., from the Associate Dean of SCALE and Professor of Law, Harriet M. Rolnick. Professor Rachel VanLandingham will discuss international law, specifically the subset called the law of war. Plus, a panel of SCALE students and alumni will share how they managed their schedules and bonded with their classmates throughout their time in law school.

Prospective student events added and updated on an ongoing basis. Check back regularly. Portions of some programs will be live streamed. If you missed any recent events, you may be able to view them at https://new.livestream.com/SouthwesternLawSchool
