Entertainment Law & Criminal Law in Action
Thursday, January 8th
4 p.m. - 8 p.m.
Come and learn about two intriguing areas of the law: entertainment law and criminal law. Find out the legal aspects involved in creating a film. Hear from current and former Southwestern students on how they’ve worked on actual entertainment cases through the Entertainment Production Practicum. See how the Donald E. Biederman Entertainment and Media Law Institute offers the most comprehensive entertainment and media law curriculum in the United States. Learn what constitutes police abuse and whether the media has shaped our perception of what justifies police action. Discover how prosecutors charge police officers with crimes, and the strategies defense attorneys use to defend those officers. This is a can’t-miss program for anyone interested in either field.
Arrive early to take a tour of the historic Bullocks Wilshire Building, including the award-winning Library, Fitness Center, and study areas throughout campus. You will also have the opportunity to tour The Residences at 7th, state-of-the-art apartments for our students.
Immediately following the tours, a reception with light appetizers will take place. Mingle with Southwestern students, faculty, and deans to experience first-hand the learning, mentorship, support, and involvement that the Southwestern student body, faculty, and administration are known for.
Understanding Diversity--The Legal Perspective
Saturday, January 24th
9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Diversity is at the heart of the Southwestern community. It’s not something we simply speak about; it’s something we live on a daily basis. Although Southwestern is the most racially diverse law school in California, we realize diversity goes far beyond race and ethnicity.
This program is an opportunity to share with you our rooted and broad commitment to diversity in the legal profession. You will see diversity in our faculty research and the classes we teach. You will see diversity in our programs of study: we have the longest standing 2-year JD program in the country, SCALE, and the only program dedicated to parents with child- and elder-care responsibilities, PLEAS. Diversity runs through our alumni and the various fields of practice they’re enjoying. Lastly, you will see diversity in our student organizations—we believe they are the heart of this school.
Southwestern has been recognized for its diversity, most recently the 2014 State Bar of California Organizational Diversity Award, and was the first law school to receive this honor in the award’s 13-year history. Join us for a day full of programming honoring diversity and the law with informational sessions, campus tours, and lunch with student organization leaders, deans and faculty. All attendees will receive application fee waivers and free parking.
