Helpful Hints When Applying for Financial Aid

  • Apply early - funds are limited. Submit all documentation on or before the deadlines whether or not you have been accepted for admission.
  • Complete the FAFSA
  • Continuing students must also complete the Financial Aid Application (available on MySouthwestern (log-in required) - see link here).
  • Read and follow all instructions carefully as each application or document is completed.
  • Keep a copy of everything submitted as part of your application process.
  • If you need to document that you mailed a form for deadline compliance, request a Certificate of Mailing from the Post Office rather than sending documents by Certified Mail.
  • Respond to all inquiries and requests for additional information as quickly as possible.
  • Print your name and Student Identification Number on all documents submitted.
  • Reapply for financial aid every academic year by the appropriate deadlines.
