Helpful Hints When Applying for Financial Aid
- Apply early - funds are limited. Submit all documentation on or before the deadlines whether or not you have been accepted for admission.
- Complete the FAFSA and Application for Financial Aid (available on MySouthwestern (log-in required) - see links here).
- Read and follow all instructions carefully as each application or document is completed.
- Keep a copy of everything submitted as part of your application process.
- If you need to document that you mailed a form for deadline compliance, request a Certificate of Mailing form the Post Office rather than sending documents by Certified Mail. This less expensive means of verifying a date of mailing is just as valid.
- Respond to all inquiries and requests for additional information as quickly as possible.
- Print your name and Student Identification Number on all documents submitted.
- Reapply for financial aid every academic year by the appropriate deadlines.
- Review your credit report.
