Professor Parrish Named to Indiana University Law Deanship
Indiana University Maurer School of Law announced this week that Professor Austen Parrish has been appointed as Dean and James H. Rudy Professor of Law, commencing January 1, 2014. Dean Parrish recently completed an 18-month appointment as Interim Dean and CEO of Southwestern after serving as Vice Dean since 2008. He originally joined the Southwestern faculty in 2002.
"Austen contributed immensely to the advancement of Southwestern as an outstanding teacher, legal scholar and administrator for more than 11 years," said Dean Susan Prager. "The Southwestern community is tremendously grateful for his wonderful contributions and engaging leadership, and we know he will continue to accomplish great things as Dean of the Maurer School of Law. We wish Austen and his family all the best in their new home in Bloomington."
Dean Parrish said, "The Maurer School of Law is a terrific school, and I feel privileged to have been appointed its dean. Like Southwestern, its dynamic faculty, committed staff and dedicated students and alumni make it a special place. While I am excited about the new position, I'm going to miss Southwestern. I have so many friends here, and the school has been such a big part of my life. Southwestern is an extraordinary institution with a wonderful history and a promising future, and I am going to continue to watch the school's upward trajectory with interest. I was so grateful for the extraordinary support I received from faculty, staff, students, trustees and alumni when I served as interim dean. That support has only been outmatched by the tremendous outpouring of well-wishes and congratulations I've received since my appointment was announced. I'm so thankful."
