Michael Sitrick, National Expert in Strategic Communications, in Conversation at Southwestern
Michael Sitrick, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Sitrick And Company, will be the next guest of the 2010-2011 "A Conversation With..." Series presented by Southwestern's Biederman Institute, co-sponsored by the Beverly Hills Bar Association and LACBA's Entertainment Law and Intellectual Property Section (ELIPS). The conversation, "If You Don't Tell Your Story, Someone Else Will - Lessons from a Master Spin Doctor," will be led by Professor Steven Krone, Director of the Biederman Institute. The program and subsequent reception will be held on Thursday, March 3 at 7:30 p.m. on the Southwestern campus.
An internationally recognized expert in the strategic use of communications, Michael Sitrick has provided advice and counsel to more than 1,000 companies, including some of the nation's largest corporations and highest profile individuals. Virtually since its inception, Sitrick And Company has been ranked either the number one or the number two strategic public relations firm in the U.S. by Inside PR magazine.
While he is probably best known for his cases that dominate the headlines, equally important to his clients are those that never make it into the public consciousness - because Mr. Sitrick and his firm are often brought in to keep their clients out of the press, which can be an even more difficult task than generating media coverage.
Prior to forming the firm, Mr. Sitrick served as Senior Vice President of Communications for Wickes Companies, Inc., where he was the architect of Wickes' Chapter 11 and M&A communications programs. Before joining Wickes, he headed Communications and Government Affairs for National Can Corporation; worked as a Group Supervisor for the Chicago public relations firm Selz, Seabolt and Associates; and served as Assistant Director of Public Information in the Richard J. Daley administration in Chicago. He also reported and wrote for such publications as the Washington Star, the Baltimore News American, and WSID Radio in Baltimore.
Mr. Sitrick has lectured on public relations and crisis management before numerous professional groups and forums; at the graduate schools of Columbia's Graduate School of Journalism, UCLA and USC's Graduate Schools, Dartmouth and the Journalism Fellows Program at the University of Michigan. He is the author of the critically acclaimed Spin: How to Turn the Power of the Press to Your Advantage (Regnery Publishing Co.) and a contributing author to Turnarounds and Workouts (Dow Jones/Irwin). He holds a B.S. degree in Business Administration with a Major in Journalism from the University of Maryland, College Park.
The free event will offer one hour of CLE credit and be held in the law school's Bullocks Wilshire Building. Reservations are requested and can be made by contacting the Biederman Institute. Campus parking is available for $6. Click here for directions to campus.
Additional speakers for the 2010-2011 "A Conversation With..." Series include Jonathan Handel, Hollywood Reporter labor correspondent and author of Hollywood on Strike! (April 12), and Warren Lieberfarb, Chairman of Warren N. Lieberfarb & Associates and "Father of the DVD" (May 26).
