Professor Gray Appointed Dean of Students and Diversity Affairs
Professor H. Nyree Gray, who has served as Director of Diversity Affairs since 2007, has been appointed as Associate Dean/Dean of Students and Diversity Affairs. As Dean of Students, she is responsible for planning, coordinating and implementing a variety of programs and services designed to support students in achieving academic and personal success. She will continue to supervise Southwestern's Diversity Affairs efforts as well.
"By centralizing the functions of the Dean of Students and Diversity Affairs, we aim to build on our solid foundation of resources in both of these areas that are essential to Southwestern's mission and student-centered approach," Dean Bryant Garth said. "Dean Gray brings an important multifaceted perspective as an alumna, practicing lawyer, faculty member and administrator to this new post."
As the law school's first Director of Diversity Affairs, Dean Gray led efforts that resulted in a dramatic increase in the number of students from underrepresented groups enrolling in and successfully completing their J.D. program at Southwestern. She was instrumental in the creation of several new programs including the Dean's Fellows, the Academic Excellence Academy, the Early Bar Program, and Bar Advantage. She is founding co-director of Southwestern's Negotiation Honors Program and teaches Advanced Topics in American Law; Interviewing, Counseling and Negotiating; Interviewing, Counseling and Negotiating in the IT Sector; and Race and the Law Seminar.
