Southwestern Takes Entertainment and Media Law LL.M. Global with Online Option
Southwestern's Donald E. Biederman Entertainment and Media Law Institute recently announced a partnership with Kaplan Legal Education to provide a fully online option for its Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree in Entertainment and Media Law. Southwestern's resident LL.M. program, which was the first of its kind established at an American law school, has prepared a generation of effective and talented entertainment, media and intellectual property lawyers. Beginning in Fall 2010, students will have the option of attending classes in-person in Los Angeles or online from anywhere in the world.
"Southwestern has had a long and intensive involvement with the entertainment and media industries in Los Angeles and beyond,"said Dean Garth. "The new online LL.M. provides students with the unique opportunity to take advantage of our outstanding entertainment and media law faculty from the convenience of an office in New York, at home in Nashville or while traveling internationally. This expertise in a constantly changing area of practice can now be shared with attorneys around the globe."
The first courses offered will include Copyright Law and Entertainment Law with Professor Robert Lind, Internet and E-Commerce Law with Professor Michael Scott, and Theater Law with Professor Gordon Firemark. The online LL.M. curriculum will also feature specialized courses such as Mass Media Law, Adult Entertainment Law, Motion Picture Production Law, Entertainment Forensic Accounting, International and Comparative Media Law and Fashion Law, among others.
"Through this partnership, Kaplan Legal Education will leverage its innovative platform and online expertise to bring Southwestern's acclaimed entertainment and media law curriculum to a broader audience,"said Stephen Burnett, vice president of auxiliary business, Kaplan Legal Education. "This will provide both increased accessibility to legal education and greater opportunities for students."
