Southwestern's Biederman Institute Honors Wayne Levin '88 with Inaugural Entertainment and Media Alumnus of the Year Award

Southwestern's Biederman Institute honored Wayne Levin '88 as its first recipient of the Entertainment and Media Alumnus of the Year Award on October 11. The award was presented to Mr. Levin, General Counsel and Executive Vice President of Corporate Operations for Lionsgate, at the law school's Entertainment Alumni Dinner, which was held at the California Yacht Club.

Mr. Levin was selected for this honor in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the legal profession, his leadership in the entertainment industry, and his dedication to the Southwestern community. He has served as an adjunct professor at the law school for over 14 years, teaching courses in Financing & Distributing Independent Films and Motion Picture Production Law.

At the event, Southwestern Professor Robert Lind presented the trophy. "Wayne Levin has been the most prolific supporter of the Biederman Institute," he said. "He has taught our students as an adjunct professor, trained nearly a generation of externs and has employed numerous Southwestern graduates. He is always willing to help the efforts of Southwestern in the development of its entertainment and media law program through the donation of his time, money and energy. Wayne is the personification of an alumnus who knows what it means to give back to the institution that helped him acquire the knowledge and skills that have placed him at the forefront of the motion picture and television branches of the entertainment industry. His continued contributions are greatly appreciated."

As the senior legal and business affairs executive at Lionsgate, Mr. Levin serves as a member of Lionsgate's top decision-making team. He has successfully negotiated and drafted a wide range of agreements, including those related to mergers, acquisitions, corporate restructurings and securities offerings. In addition, he manages the legal and business aspects of Lionsgate's relationship with top creative talent.

Mr. Levin was head of the Business & Legal Affairs department at Trimark Pictures when Lionsgate acquired Trimark Holdings in October 2000. Prior to that, he worked in private practice for several years specializing in entertainment law, criminal law, and litigation.
