Jane Powell

Jane Powell joined Southwestern in 1985, serving as an Assistant to the Dean and Student Activities Administrator, and was named Directior of Student Affairs in 1994. She was appointed Assistant Dean/Dean of Students beginning in 2003, and was promoted to Associate Dean/Dean of Students five years later. While working full-time, Dean Powell earned her M.A. and Ph.D. degreesĀ in higher education.

Prior to joining Southwestern, Dean Powell began her professional career as a high school English and drama teacher in American Fork, Utah. In 1983, she worked in Washington, D.C. for the United States Business Administration as the confidential assistant to the administrator, and the following year for the United States Senate as a Constitution Sub-Committee chief clerk and legislative correspondent.

Dean Powell has primary responsibility for all aspects of student services in the academic program and for developing policies and programs to help to insure the highest quality student experience. She counsels students regarding academic and other concerns, is involved in academic support and extracurricular programs, and implements the academic policies of the faculty as well as policies and procedures for students with disabilities.
