Law and Religious Institutions seminar concerns the unique legal problems of religious institutions.

The seminar begins with a brief overview of key Establishment Clause and Free Exercise clause concepts. Major subjects covered include:

  • church organization and intramural disputes (e.g. legal entity, church property disputes);
  • church/parishioner disputes (e.g. clergy malpractice, discipline and confidential communications);
  • church and community (e.g. employment law, education law, land use, historical preservation); and,
  • church and fundraising (e.g. financial oversight, tax issues).
