Semester Abroad - Canada

Semester in Ontario, Canada offered through the University of Western Ontario

As part of Southwestern's student exchange program with the University of Western Ontario, Canada, students in either law school may study at the corresponding law school and earn transferable credit.

Canada
 

Students in the top half of their class are eligible to participate in the formal exchange program established between the Faculty of Law at the University of Western Ontario and Southwestern. Two full-time students are selected from among interested applicants by their own institution and are admitted to take classes at the other. Each university retains the right to approve proposed candidates for exchange. Students in this program register and have their course selections abroad approved by their home university and receive academic credit at home for their study abroad.

Southwestern students need to apply by April 30 to participate in the Fall, and September 30 to participate in the Spring. To apply, students must submit the following materials to the Dean of Students Office:

  • a current resume;
  • a letter that describes the student’s interest in the program and lists the qualities that recommend the applicant for selection.

Canada
 
Tuition fees for the program are paid to Southwestern. Grading is on a credit/no-credit basis, with a minimum grade of "C" required for credit transfer. Applicants must agree to release their transcripts to the University of Western Ontario. Students who anticipate a need for financial aid while in Canada should contact the Southwestern Financial Aid Office.
