This course will build upon and expand the legal research skills and strategies introduced in the first year LAWS course. Topics will include legislative and statutory resources, court rules, administrative law resources, legal ethics research and the full range of secondary sources. In addition to LexisNexis and Westlaw, students will use print materials and no-cost internet legal sources. Research hypotheticals will require research of both California and federal law. To help evaluate the current state of legal information on the internet, each student will complete at least one research project using only free resources and will compare results in terms of time spent, cost, and accuracy with the research results of another student using fee-based services.
