Youth at Risk Seminar

Description

This seminar will provide students with an opportunity to explore a variety of issues that impact children who are at risk of becoming victims and offenders. The focus will be on the intersection of juvenile justice with dependency courts, schools, and the adult criminal justice system. Topics will include general issues such as racial disproportionality in juvenile justice and foster care, gender disproportionality of status offenders, and intergenerational crime, as well as more specific issues concerning minors subject to jurisdiction of both the juvenile and dependency court, waiver of juveniles to the adult criminal court, truancy and zero tolerance, teen dating violence, safety issues concerning homosexual youth, and barriers to reunification for children of incarcerated parents.
