U.S. Immigration Law and Mexico in the Age of Reform

This course will examine emerging issues in U.S. immigration law in relation to Mexico. Students will develop an understanding of key cases in American immigration law. They will learn about immigration law's intersections with criminal law, family law, and international law in the lives of Mexican nationals with ties to the United States. The course will cover the enforcement of immigration law both at the border and within the United States; it will also introduce students to Mexico's immigration law. We will explore the consequences of record-breaking numbers of deportations from the United States to Mexico. The course will conclude by discussing current immigration reform efforts and ideas.
