This course provides further instruction in appellate procedure (standing to appeal, the timing of an appeal, and the extent of appellate review), to which students were exposed during LAWS II. Students will answer hypothetical fact patterns to test their understanding of these concepts. Students will also analyze various appellate opinions to further their understanding of what constitutes "good legal writing." The class will be divided into appellate panels near the end of the course and review a record on appeal. Each student will be responsible for drafting an appellate opinion (majority, concurring or dissenting).
