(Formerly Record Contract Negotiation and Drafting) This course examines in detail the legal and business structure of the music industry. It concentrates on the wide variety of contractual arrangements protecting the interests of the parties working in the music industry. Among the contracts to be studied are management, merchandising, producer, publishing, recording, touring and collective bargaining agreements. The course will also address new technologies and the evolving shift of power in an industry seeking to redefine itself in the face of a changing business and legal environment. Students will have the opportunity to participate in mock negotiations and hear from guest speakers with hands-on experience in the industry.
