Asylum Law

Description

This course surveys the laws of political asylum and related protection for those fleeing danger in their home countries. The course explores the statutory foundation of asylum law in the United States from its inception to its current status. In addition to examining U.S. asylum law, the course will introduce students to courtroom procedures and techniques for handling asylum cases. In this practical course, students will have the opportunity to visit the United States Immigration Court to observe actual asylum proceedings. Practitioners, government counsel and Immigration Judges will also be invited to the class to speak on various topics.
