Description
This course introduces the student to different documents and events that were foundational to the adoption of the U.S. Constitution. This will be done by looking at primary sources, cases, and secondary textual coverage. Some of these materials will reach back historically to English and other non-American sources prior to 1787, but the emphasis will be on materials from the founding period and from the adoption of the Fourteenth Amendment. That Amendment, together with the other Reconstruction Era amendments, is viewed by many historians and constitutional law scholars as "completing" the Constitution.
